I bought my Daytona two weeks ago from a bank that had repossessed it for a bankruptcy. It has 9000 miles on it and all is well except the exhaust. At 1900-2200 rpms it has some terrible exhaust drone almost to the point of vibrating the trunk. I took it to a muffler shop locally to see what the problem was. The person that owned it before me had taken off the original mufflers and replaced them with 40 series flowmasters and has removed the resonators. They left the factory pipes. At the tip they installed stainless tips that are about 3 to 3 1/2" diam. and app. 12 to 16" long. I dont mind the loudness but the drone has got to go!! The muffler guy says that changing the tips to shorter ones will make a big difference because they are acting like "echo tubes" and causing my vibration. He also recommend changing the mufflers to 3 stagers. What do you guys think? :4-dontknow:

I think catbacks are called for. Seems like a guy jury-rigged the outfit. My opinion.:)

Just my opinon. I'm sure some of the other's will chime in.

Are there any that will have no drone and still sound ok like the stock system on the Daytona?

Ok I am biased.... Zoomers:D Actually there are a few out there that claim no drone.. Zoomers, Corsa, Basanni.... they are probably some of the best as far as drone is considered, but a full magnaflow cat back or flowmaster cat back ain't to shabby either!

MagnaFlow sound real nice there are lot of different systems out there check out the venders section HHP.

Agreed....go full catback. Probably Magnaflow or Zoomers for minimal drone. With the stock system, it needs the resonators in place.

I agree... get something like the zoomers, or see if you can track down some resinators from ebay or an auto-scrap yard.

I had the Corsa system, no drone. I added a cai, little drone. When my headers go in I am expecting more drone. This probally does'nt help, but it seems like the more exhaust/intake work you do the more the drone is heard.

Is drone, or just the exhaust note changing? The sound will change by adding new pipes etc. I always figured drone was like a resonating sound rather than an exhaust note. I could be wrong though:4-dontknow:

I have magnaflow. Overall pretty happy with it. Not to loud.

I have to concur with burkdadhemi.
I have 40s on my 67 Firebird and it's crazy loud in the car (and it's a convertible)... changing the tips won't help. Go with a full system with resonating mufflers in it.
funny part: the HACK who owned that car spent about 150 on mufflers and about 150 to rig it at the muffler shop... they have catbacks out there for about 500 - 600 that are ENGINEERED for our cars... Flowmaster even has a kit out for our cars if I'm not mistaken.
I don't get it. Spend all that money on a car and then hack the exhaust. :shakehead:
I'm done. Thanks for letting me get pissed off at half a brains that do STUPID sh*t.
