I have been kicking around an idea since saturday about making a box/cover for the coolant resevoir and the area in front of that where the stock airbox is. please note the under hood pic.

i was thinking sheet metal but also was thinking of a plexiglass cover painted to match the stuff under my hood with the exception of an area with a design etched in it and lit by LEDs. so what you think

im sure whatever you do will look good but im not a fan of covers. in my opnion you should make the coolant resivor itself look good instead.
covers are like having a hood under your hood. its like a bandaid. think about it, its like "this looks bad, lets cover it up"

Yeah but there is something to be said about custom cars and hotrods that have a clean engine bay where you don't really see anything.I think having an engine bay that has some covers and reveals nothing can be just as impressive.
On the 6.1 I like things exposed, on the 5.7 I love the custom engine covers:TU:

yeah im not trying to hide the motor just make it look a little more complete. a big void makes it look like its not a full car

A company already makes stainless covers for the windshield washer bottle area and the coolant area. I like them and would get them once I'm done spending moeny on making my car perform. You could even paint them for a factory look.
I see nothing wrong with covers, keeps the engine bay nice and clean.

Personally under the hood sometimes people go a little too far, an engine thats clean with some chrome oil caps, dip sticks, and ect with some colored braided hoses looks more aggresive then anything else.
Its your ride though it would definently be unique!
