2008 Daytona, 66k miles, stock save for CAI, Flowmaster cat back, stereo and larger wheels. Lately I’ve noticed a random smell like burning oil or rubber. It doesn’t happen at any specific time like during hard acceleration or anything like that. I’m usually just driving along at 30-50 mph. I’ll smell a strong burning smell for about 30 seconds and then it goes away. Happened a few times in the last few weeks. No real issues with the car, although it did just have work done on the rear differential about a month ago. Temp gauge is fine. No warning lights or anything, no smoke. So what could this be? Should I be concerned that this is coming from the differential? Burnt clutch?

Also the AC has been running when I smell this, and I usually have the drivers window down so I’m not sure if it’s coming in through the vents or not. Not leaving any oil on the pavement when I park either.

Look at the serpentine belt and see if there's any signs of wear or rubbing/chafing.
