2011 cluster gauge swap

    I finally got my car into the dealer today for some work and spoke with a pretty reputable tech on the cluster issues. Basically his explanation was they could not sync the miles due to some regulations with fca on tampering with a vehicles odometer. So do not swap the clusters and drive a crazy amount of miles because if you swap back, there's no way (from what he said) to re sync the mileage to what it's supposed to be on the original cluster.

    And in regards to the shift indicator, cruise control and the other odd issues, those are due to the different bcm modules that were used in 11 vs 12+ chargers. So to correct those you'd have to swap bcm's with an 12+ to get the things to work correctly.

    If you really wanted the new cluster style you have to drop off your car at the dealer and have them order a new blank cluster and install it so it will display the correct millage.

    Yeah that's what my dealership told me, except that I would have to order another 2011 cluster gauge. Overall it just sounds too expensive to swap out the clusters on our chargers. Well the good news is at least we both tried and got almost the same results. If we only had a star scan tool that would pretty much solve this problem :)

    I had to jump on the cluster swap since 11` cluster is to ugly. I did my online reading and kind of narrowed out that only 2012 cluster works properly on 2011 anything newer has issues. I just ordered one today and will install as soon as it arrives and post.

    Also I read that the Mileage does not transfer to the "new" cluster if decide to sell in the future and swap back to the old one does the mileage correct itself since I read that it is being logged by the BCM.

    I am also in the process of ordering the Tazer or Tranzformer Gen2 but still debating if I need the shift firmness ( I mainly want it for the line lock feature). but did you notice any changes/perks/unlocks from the 2012+ cluster with you Tazer.

    I had the tazer with my upgraded cluster, no additional stuff sadly. Not even the srt evic pages will display unless you get a 12+ bcm also. And as for the mileage transferring back after you swap back to stock cluster, it won't transfer back. The mileage stops when you take the cluster out and will display the same mileage when reinstalled later on.

    Ill just log the mileage down. I bought one with 108k (I wanted one with mileage close to original one). I am currently at 132-133k. How hard was the install do you have any tips.

    Does all the other original features still work. etc. Fuel economy, Speed, the rest of the options.

    The install is pretty simple, just pull the grey bezel off and there's 4 screws on the corners. There are green clips on the back of the bezel that fall off and get lost in the depths of you dash, doesn't hurt if your missing one or two. The bezel is gonna make a lot of scary noises like it's gonna snap in half but it's pretty sturdy as long as your careful.

    Feature wise, only issues I found were odd things like the real time gas mileage bar would disappear when it gets past 30mpg, the cruise control speed would only display 0mph when it's set at whatever and just odd things like that. the gear indicator would not display what gear you are in. But other than that every other feature works as it should

    Sounds like there still is some quirks that have to be figured out. Keep us updated.

    Did the 2012 cluster swap today as soon as it arrived was a 20 min job. Gear changes on screen perfect. Haven't received my transformer yet to try out if the pages work. When on cruise mine only shows a odometer icon no 0 or any numbers.

    Bro, your starting to make me consider this dream again :)

    Crossing my fingers and hope the tazer might do the trick. If not, then I guess it'll be based upon person choice to have the miles match your speedo or not.

    Cool man, If you want to do a 8.4 swap let me know, already did a RE2 to RB5 on my 2011. There are so many things you can do to your V6 if your willing to spend for it.

    Will hit you up as soon as I save up for it. yeah but the rest of the things left for me cost a lot of money like Ripp TC (waiting to see when it comes out) or sprintex SC which looks cleaner IMO but less power. or Gear upgrades and Brake upgrades. My main Concern is that my Car is at 133K miles don't know if its to late for those type of mods.

    I was going to ask you: Did the mileage from your BCM also sync up to the cluster you currently have as well with the tazer?

    Update: Every thing working find except two issues (Not major issues).
    1. When in cruise control it does not show the "set cruise speed ##" only the Cruise icon and when set "on" cruise icon with Odometer needle.
    2. When in autoshift it does not show you what Gear you are in. i.e 1-5

    I can live with this just keeping you guys updated.

    I don't think it is possible at all even with tazer, but I could be wrong.

    Dope I think it's because you got the 2012 for some reason I don't think the 13 or 14s let the gear change work! I have been trying to figure out why others have this problem and some don't. All common in the working ones they are all 2012s.

    I put the ripp on
    I put the ripp on at 120k . If your engine has been well maintained & its mostly highway miles these engines will go!
