Fortunately, my deployment experiences have fallen solely into the category on the left.

Marine Airwing FTW!

I'm hoping my son will be a fobbit when he goes to afghaniland but he realy wants to leave the wire. Who knows, hopefully I'll be back before he deploys, wife is going to be double stressing with both of us there as it is.

Im not going to lie, in the current conflict, Im pretty much a fobbit till the unthinkable happens, an aircraft goes down. Then my job completely shifts gears and Im tossed into the "****" I like having the options of BK, Taco Bell and what not, but tha doesnt mean Im so comfortable with this place that I dont consider this combat because I do. My chain of command however seems to liken this place to a Forward Deployed Garrison, which is especially irritating.

Seconded here. Being the king of swing, we do a bit more of the "Helo down" stuff. We can lift anything and everything. I haven't been over there, but I'm hoping being a CH-47 i can get out of the wire from time to time. My main concern is being stuck in a hanger for a year coming home and "Oh wait, was i in Afghanistan?" type of deal. :i_rolleyes:

Well, if you are a Crew dog, you can expect to be outside the wire a lot. But if you end up in a Delta Company, the only time you might leave will be in and out of theater, or for a recovery mission. Its the nature of the beast and while it sucks, everyones mission contributes to those groundpounders on the lines.

Eh, I'm Delta (Contract says im in Bravo, but maintenance is always Delta). We're a small unit attached to the 35th ID. Compared to the other BIGGER unit attached to the 34th ID (Red Bulls). So im thinkin we may get some more time to have fun and do more than what we are supposed to do.

Our pilots seem to think we're gonna be in and out of the wire all the time, not sure why (The pilots obviously will be, but they think the maintenance guys will too). But as said before, i haven't deployed yet (haven't even been home from training for 6 months), but i volunteered for our next one. I hope its a good one.

Ok, so I've been on both sides of that picture...not by choice! I'd rathar be outside the wire any day!!! I sucked as a FOBBIT and unfortunately had a yearfullofit last year at BUCCA. Greenbeans was always full of those f***ers!

That's pretty much the position I'm in, I've been sitting in a hanger for a year now, mostly just riding it out. Wouldnt mind getting out once in a while, but my CO is beyond terrified of losing a Marine, won't let anyone outside the wire for anything. Makes for a loooong year. 3 weeks and counting!

I was behind a desk most of the time I was there. I fought to get out of the wire and was only outside it 5 times. 3 times to Mosul, once to FOB Warrior/FOB Speicher and one time to the village outside our FOB to do some recon work. Fobbits are people who find ways to stay in the wire vs going out.
