I have a 2007 Charger 3.5L. Recently I have been noticing this happening. It is an intermittent problem. When I stop at a stoplight, my car most of the time idles nicely at around 650 rpms ( or so ). Then suddenly, I will feel what I can only describe as a slight 'surge', and I see the rpms go to about 800 or so, then drop right back down to normal. It almost feels like the car will stall but it doesn't. I brought it to my mechanic who recommended I have a tune up and induction service, and he said that would probably fix the problem...but it still happens, after spending $500 on that. I brought it back to mechanic, who can find nothing wrong, and no code shows up. His advice was to wait till it gets worse! Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what this might be?

    Thank you

Yours is basically the same as my 2004 3.5L

What is your mileage and do you know the maintenance history on the engine.
What exactly was done for the $500?

The maintenance history is scheduled maintenance as I have had the car since new. For the $500 they did a tuneup with new plugs etc and induction service. Can’t help but feel I overpaid for that.... and still have the issue. Someone had mentioned to me it could be throttle body, but wouldn’t that show some kind of code? Didn’t like the advise of the mechanic to wait till it gets worse, so that maybe there will be a code...

Other than this, my car runs great. I would love to at least know the reason, then have it taken care of. :)

The thing with diagnostic trouble codes is that they can have rules that control when they get saved.
For instance your hiccup may have to happen X amount of times or at a specific time in engine operation, etc before the DTC gets saved

Are you familiar at all with what this may be. I heard of recalibrating the throttle ????

The engine uses a lot of sensors to control engine function
Crankshaft position sensor. Camshaft position sensor. Air flow or pressure. Knock sensor. Throttle position. O2 sensors. One of the position sensors could be acting up just enough to make your hiccup but not get flagged with a DTC

How would one figure this out, since I brought to a mechanic, and he had no clue?

I did see some you tube videos close to this topic. You might search on "2007 dodge charger idle issue" or similar and see what you find. It might give you a clue

Is your mechanic using real deal diagnostic equipment that can monitor real time sensor readings, etc? And have you been able to bring it to him when the hiccups were happening?
