I have been reading off & on all day. That could be dangerous, I know.
Anyway, the drone caused by the resonator delete and addition of a Magnaflow Performance muffler is not horrible on my V6. But, I want to eliminate as much drone as possible. I have decided to add a J-Pipe (or two) to assist with this solution.

But, I wanted to run it by those who know more than I do about these things. Here are my notes:

V6 engines = 3 pulses/revolution
Speed of sound = ~1160 fps @ 100° F

Drone Frequency @ Varying RPMs
Corresponding J-Pipe Length to Cancel Drone (frequency)
RPMsFreq / HzJ-Pipe (inches)
15007546.40
16008043.50
17008540.94
18009038.67
19009536.63
200010034.80
210010533.14
220011031.64

Use Spectroid app (or other sound analyzer) to help verify drone frequencies. These should correlate to RPMs at which drone is most noticeable.

  • Attach J-Pipe in front of muffler, but behind catalytic converter.
  • Attach J-Pipe at 90° to exhaust pipe.
  • Curves are okay, but no pinched bends. Straight pipe is best.
  • Use same diameter pipe as exhaust.
  • Flat cap on end of J-Pipe.
Thoughts?

I'm on my second set of Solo Performance exhaust... And yes the J pipes absolutely kill the drone... I've also read where others have added J pipes to eliminate the drone also... Should be a good mod for you to add to your existing set up... 👍

I think you are WAY overthinking this. Magnaflows are loud, and no porting will stop sound, BUT a quieter muffler. Just make sure you can see through it or you will lose power.
