Lifetime Powertrain warranty... Is it really good for life?

I recently contacted the dealer to schedule an appointment for a leaking valve cover gasket. I asked to confirm this was covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty which they said it was but the warranty was not a lifetime warranty and expired in 2011, which was only 3 years after I purchased the car brand new. They then informed me that because I failed to take the car in after 5 years for the powertrain inspection that the warranty was voided however I was never notified by paper or verbally that this had to be done The warranty is confusing, what do you guys think?

I don't know what the 3 year thing was all about but I found this for 2008 which does mention having to do inspections every 5 years.

There should have been some sort warranty info that came with the car.

Yes that is what they told me but like I said I have nothing in writing stating I needed the powertrain inspected every 5 years so I guess I'm stuck paying for this repair out of pocket
Yep, my 09 Challenger is due for the inspection February of next year. It'll be the 3rd one. I did have a notification but I can't remember if it was a separate paper or in the owners manual.
Like I said I don't recall seeing anything about a 5-year powertrain I don't recall seeing anything about a 5-year powertrain inspection. I've also taken the car in for oil changes every few months and had recalls done and was never and was never informed of a needed powertrain inspection then either so I guess I'm stuck paying for this repair.
Posts like this pop up every so often. It's one of those "fine print" things, and it's a damn shame when folks aren't aware of it, but it's pretty clear that's what Dodge was banking on.

If it makes you feel any better, it's not really a lifetime warranty. A member on another site needed engine repairs on his '07 Daytona (which was in excellent condition). They made him pay for a teardown, and then when it turned out it was a covered repair, they decided it was a "total loss", wrote him a check for about half what the car was worth, threw all the parts in the trunk (including the heads) and told him to send a wrecker to pick it up.
I ended up going through the 50 pg warranty booklet and it does state the car needs an inspection on the powertrain every 5 years to keep the powertrain warranty active. Oh well.

Even on the pictures you posted it states "Certain Restrictions Apply". Def one of those deals where you have to do your own due diligence.
