I have searched the forums but not seen this exact scenario.
The car has no electric power at all. No interior lighting, no LCD display, power locks, nothing. Nothing except the "OFF" indicator on the ignition. Pressing the start button gives a single bong (after recharging the battery or when giving it a jump), but otherwise does nothing. No click and no displays or lights anywhere. It will not start and will not change to on or run. No other buttons in the car do anything at all.
The battery was discharged, but behaves the same after charging. It also has the same behavior while giving it a jump.
I cannot find any burnt fuses under the hood or in the trunk. I swapped every relay with a spare from another charger as the behavior seemed to fit a bad Ignition relay in the trunk or under the hood. The only relay that gives any reaction at all is the ignition relay under the hood. If I pull it, I hear the familiar high pitched buzzing sound you get when the car is unlocked and the headlights come on. This buzz fades out like a capacitor discharging. Plugging in a known good relay makes no change.
It seems has to be ignition related, but fuses and relays are good.
Additionally, in the past couple months there has been a slow drain on the battery that I have not tracked down, but which I am guessing is related. The last time it started it had been sitting for several days and needed a jump. The starter ran for a few seconds without the engine turning over, then stopped. The second try it was fine. I have seen this happen before a few years ago after the car had been sitting for two months, so I didn't think too much of it.
Has anyone seen this, or have a good educated guess on where to look?
