Offset Question

Guys,

I am sorry for the noob question. I need to know if on a 20x9 wheel, will I be good with a 20mm offset? They are of course 5x115 bolt pattern.

I have a 2011 R/T Max RWD. I am pretty sure the factory rims are 20x8.5 with a +18mm offset.

I don't want to give up exactly what wheels I am looking into yet. but the manufacturer website says "09-up Challenger/Charger, 20mm offset" but I am a tad nervous as they obviously didn't account for the AWD models.

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Jeff, the correct offset for our stock 20s is actually +24mm. I inquired a while back: http://www.chargerforumz.com/showthread.php?t=136622&highlight=wheel+offset

Anyway, I believe a 20mm offset would work just fine. I don't think you will need spacers on this little of a difference. Worst case scenario, you get yourself a spacer, but I don't really recommend it. I hope someone can confirm for sure that a 4mm difference in offset is fine. Sorry I can't help you out any further than this man :shakehead:.

Thanks Sam! I swear I did a search but nothing relevant came up. I appreciate the help buddy. If a few things fall in place right, I may have new tires and wheels on before this time next month. We shall see ; -P

It's all good man! Wish I could help you out more. Good luck with whatever you got planned; I'm sure it's going to be epic though :D.

bumpty bump for help and more insight into this.

Jeff, also call or check with any tire shop and see what they say about the max allowable offset difference in general....

offset measures from the the wheels centerline.

OEM charger 20x8 wheels are +24mm offset, meaning for an 8" wide wheel (measured at the bead seat, actual width is about 9" outside to outside), the face the wheel mounts on is pushed 24mm to the outside.

a 20x9 wheel with +20mm offset will have the face of the wheel pushed 20mm to the outside. that means that of the 25.4mm of increased wheel width, 8.7mm (~11/32") is pushed to the inside ((25.4/2)-4mm offset difference) and 16.7mm (~21/32") is pushed to the outside.

you should be fine...might get kinda tight if you couple them with much wider (say 275/40R20 tires, which are the same height, but 30mm (~1 3/16") wider than the OEM 245/45R20's...

MichiganPat you seem to be very knowledgeable on this subject. I am currently looking to buy 22x9 wheels but the offset is +15mm. Would I be okay running these with 265/35R22 tires?
