I might possibly have a bad alternator, but that's another issue. I got an OBDII scanner/reader tool and while my check engine light comes on, the only code it reads is "(Immobilizer pending SAE J1930 approval)". I have read that this can happen if the battery is unplugged for too long (which mine was, as it was dead and then I left it charging at AutoZone.
I am using the original fob key - is it safe to use the tool to clear the code with the original key in the ignition, or will this lock me out of the PCM?

I see we're the same forums haha
So, my engine blew and I had to replace it. Do you think this is why it thinks the VIN is incorrect? The PCM was not changed.

can this same problem, (wrong key) if not addressed, finally prevent starting and cause a power drain on the battery suddenly due to the immobilization?
