Hey everybody, I recently got a 2008 Charger police package 5.7 with 62,000 miles for a steal. It runs, drive, and looks great. The only problem is that small problems here and there keep popping up. The first issue I know about from the beginning was the sway link and tension rod. Got those replaced immediately. But about a couple weeks ago the engine light came on and my temp gauge stopped working so I took it to autozone and got it checked and was told I needed to replace the spark plugs and the coolant temp sensor. So I replaced all of it and thought I was on my way until yesterday when I was driving to my little brothers baseball game the temp gauge bottomed out. It was working after I replaced it and unhooked my battery for 30 minutes. So I turned the car off and back on and it was working again just like that. That always seemed to do the trick before as I would take it to autozone with the lights on and then come back out and the lights where off. As I was getting closer to the game my gauge read all the to the right and a light came on and then the gauge bottomed out again and a lightning bolt light came on. Me not knowing what that was kept driving thinking it was the alternator or something. I pulled up my phone and siri'd what the light was and discovered it was the throttle body control light and when it started flashing I knew I was in trouble. Well it was not flashing so I thought I could make it to a gas station and call for help. That however was not the case and the car started to rough idle and race and shut down on a busy highway in traffic. Luckily I was in the slow lane and a police officer offered to help me push it into the shoulder.

What in the world could be causing this? The car was extremely hot when it shut down and it was smoking out of the engine. Not terribly but smoking nonetheless. Please Please Please give me any info you guys got. It is in the shop right now and is getting checked out tomorrow. Thanks!

Bummer, I hope you're back to normal after those issues are addressed.

I had a temp sensor go out before and the lightning bolt did appear, but the car still ran okay. I eventually changed the water pump due to a leak and the new unit came with the sensor. I haven't had any problems since then.
