Tint % with pics?

814 Views 21 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Blackhawk623
I'm about to be getting my car windows tinted, but having some trouble figuring out what I want. The legal limit in SC is must allow more than 27% - I'm thinking I'll do 30%, but where I'm at they don't seem to care too much about tint and I may drop to 20%. Thoughts/advise?
Also, it's illegal to have tint on the windshield here - Is it common to not tint the windshield or do we all just say F it? :ROFLMAO:

Post some pics of your tint!! Thanks guys!

Wheel Tire Vehicle Car Window

I have state legal limit on the front side windows in MO which is 35% and I have 25% elsewhere for a decent looking match (technically, the way the law is written here, you can paint the back windows black and there is no specific law saying you cant, but you will attract attention). You can tint the windshield if you have a prescription and a waiver from the DMV but it’s really not worth it. Cops will still pull you over for the tint and check to see if you have all the paperwork while looking for more reasons to pry into your buisness. As former LE myself, it’s just better to not give them a reason to contact you, even if you are 100% legit, it’s just a waste of everyone’s time. Although it seems around me only State Troopers really give a damn about tint, counties and cities will rarely cite you for it unless you are being a d**k and they want to add stuff to your ticket list because you’re giving them a hard time.

In the daytime I'll grab a pic tomorrow; 15% on everything except the windshield. I feel like the windshield is a huge bullseye. Bear in mind if you have let's say 20% on all the windows, even 50% on the windshield would IMO look dark since the rest of the car is already darkened. Keep that in mind.

Here in Florida (and a lot of other states) there is a medical exemption that allows tint darker than what is usually legal. Here's my Wife's 19 with my Daughter's 21 RT's. My Wife's is 5% sides, rear, and windshield top strip, all legal with the exemption. I have been doing all my vehicles this way (legally) since 1980!

My Daughter's tint (5%) was done the next week. IF you are wanting or needing darker than legal you might want to see if your state has an exemption and if you qualify.

Makes sense! I really don't want to attract more than necessary attention to myself. I think I'm worried 35% is too light but all the pics I've seen and yours, it proves me wrong every time :ROFLMAO: I appreciate the info!!

I was looking at the laws again and it does say the top strip is legal here, must've missed it the first time. I'll probably go with that! I like how it looks plus will help with the sun of course. Thank you !!

That's true. I don't want to be a walking bullseye just for windshield tint

I always go for 20%. Darker then that at night around here with no street lights becomes a problem. A couple of my cars of my cars have 5% or darker on the back and if its not daylight out you can't see out of it.

It's super dark at night where I'm at with hardly any street lights. Thanks!
Thanks for this post. I've been thinking about getting my windows tinted too. I believe there is a bit of tint in the windows already from the factory. I'm wondering how much darker this will make the LEGAL tint look. I don't need the cops pulling me over for that because then for sure they will get me for no front license plate!!

Does anyone have pictures of factory tinted windows with applied tint?

15% rear doors and rear glass. 50% front door glass-so law enforcement can see you.

Like Mr. Dodge says above, be careful of going too dark on the front windows. My wife has 5% on the front windows of her Beemer (she has a medical exception) and at night I can't see out of them at all.
