not familiar with this system, do you need a subscription to use voice commands? How well does it work?

It depends on the model year. With your 2015, I suspect that yes, you will need a paid subscription for the voice to text, the exception to this is a handful of "canned" repsonses that are available always.

The newer system utilizes Android Auto for many of the same features.
