Hello, I would like to know if there is a BIG difference between the two. It seems that they arent that far apart in liters. Anyone know? Thanks.

The 2.7L is horribly underpowered for this car. It would work in a Mitsubishi, but not in a charger. Thats why Dodge started offering the SE Plus, the Basic trim level with the 3.5 instead of the 2.7. If you are going to get the six cylinder, definately get the 3.5.

3.5l is faster then the 2.7l, but it can EAT gas... so if you want a "fast" charger you might as well get an R/T and fill up about the same as the 3.5l. But if you just want a V6 charger that drives - 2.7l is a cheaper choice, especially at the pump. And its not like the car wont go over 100mph

Agreed im a college student so i decided to go with the 2.7 just becuz at the moment i want to be as efficient as i can

but a charger is a charger!

before my SE i was drving a Lincoln Navigator with a huge monster V8 then i went to the 2.7 V6.....big change!

but i later will get an R/T....sooner than later!!!

i hear ya there... i feel fortunate to have a charger at all. when i was signing the papers i was thinking, i cant believe i'm buying a charger. i had been eyeballing this body style since they came out with it, but didnt think i would ever own one. the 2.7 fit my budget. sure i would love to have a hemi, but im just glad to have a charger. its still fast enough to get me in trouble.

when i get out of my charger and head into the house i look back at it and smile, look out the window at it, smile, drive it, smile. my charger has made me a happy camper for sure. i love it....

when my rich uncle gets out of the poor house i would like to get a charger with a hemi and give this one to the wife. she loves it too...

My thought on it,i have a 2.7 and i heard lots of bad things on it but as i drive it i cant complain about the speed on it the pick up is not that bad for a standard car.i have no problems on where i go,sometimes i have the car full and still go where i want when i want,i feeel little more weight in the car but it goes just fine.i heard they are giving good deals on the 3.5 now on new but i got mine used.if i knew now what i know i would have bought the 3.5 with the standard options with the rear seat and the auto stick trans and has a better trans for two thousand more which sounds worth it to me now, dont know the gas is much different but i guess it would burn more of how you run it hard.over all happy with the power of the 2.7 for being the small v6

ya the 2.7 and 3.5 is not a HIGE difference i drove both the thing is that they both have about the same ACCEL. and they both have a higher REV. than the hemi but in the long run u feel more juice in the 3.5 to really pump it and hit the floor with the pedal

but the 2.7 gets the job done when i want to hit the pedal no complaining here........

especially with gas prices right now!!!!!!

it sound like we have a bunch of proud parents all over again. Most of us feel great joy over our Charger like we did when our first child was born. LOL!!

And everyone on this forumz get to have a chance to reminise on when they bought theirs. That is what family and friends is all about.

Get the 3.5l. There is more mods for this motor. Throw a CAI, exhaust, and headers, the 3.5 can make the Charger get out of its own way pretty well. Next is the tuner, then heads and cam. More options for the 3.5 than the 2.7.

ya thats the only thing you can do wayyyyyy more to the 3.5 but if your looking to drop some cash into the car and not wanting to go with a Hemi than thats the way to go cuz with the 2.7 there really isnt tooo much u can do with it.

i think that the 2.7 car is more of a cometic car and that does not bother me at alll

i want my car to look GOOOOOD!!!!

FWIW I had an Intrepid with the 2.7 (a '99) that was traded for a 300M with the 3.5.

I noticed a LOT more performance, maybe it's my driving style. I also noticed that the 3.5 actually got BETTER highway mileage (by 1MPG) over the 2.7 - maybe it was the gearing, but it did. Mixed driving was anywhere from the same, up to 2MPG worse.

I've been driving my '99 300M to work since my Charger's accident and have enjoyed 24-25MPG (up to 26.8 until I hit the mountains). Considerably better than the Hemi on gas, but also nowhere near as fun.

right now we're putting anywhere from 240 to 270 miles a week on it. maybe a 1/3 hwy, 2/3 city...the first week we got 20 mpg, now only 18 mainly because the foot has gotten heavier on the hwy... by your numbers im guessing my mpg is kinda sucking right now eh?

i just removed the stock air silencer(or whatever its called) over the weekend. just testing it out this week with it off. just stock intake, no cai, its def taking in more air, has a lot more pedal, idk if this will help my mpg. prob not since more pedal makes foot heavier on hwy. any advice to improve mpg other than laying off the pedal like i did the first week?

im just a shadetree mechanic... you know the kind that keeps changing parts till they fix the prob... lol, can take anything apart and put it back together... thats how i finally solved the rubiks cube... took it apart and put it back together...lol

LOL  ....hey Man....I only speak the truth....has nothing to do with what anyone owns, its just the facts. I think TC is in line to make his 3.5L fall into the "Pretty Quick" category:TU:

This is the scale I grew up on
- 1/4 Mile Times
16-17 seconds.....Very Slow
14.5-15.9......quick-slow
13.5-14.4 .....pretty quick
13.4 or less....fast

And there you have it:D
