Going to order the Fastman ported Throttle body, any experience or suggestions?

While researching online I stumbled across a site that does cost effective (very professional pedigree though) ported throttle bodies for the 3.6L for $265.00 shipped. The company is called Fastman, and it's an 80mm bore with a halved throttle plate shaft diameter for extra flow potential. I plan on getting one at the first of next month and would like to know if anyone here has first hand experience with this mod. I've read lots of feedback from people in other forums and so far, nothing but compliments on the workmanship and quality of the throttle body. What should I expect to be different with a ported throttle body? Obviously without a tune I will see less than with right?

I wouldn't expect that much of a gain. Maybe that of cutting your stock muffler off. Basically you will pay $265 for maybe 5hp if you are lucky. It may even mess with the car and make it run worse until your long term fuel trims adjust for it. You are basically adding untuned air into the engine.

If it was me I would hold off on it and slap it on when you get a custom tune. You won't feel like you wasted your money.

Hey D150, I know what you mean and mostly I agree with you that these mods are not what they would be with a tune to make certain parameters more aggressive, but one caveat keeps coming up from everything I read, and thats outright elimination or at least notable loss of throttle lag. Thats a complaint of mine for this car the 1.5 to 2 seconds it takes for my car to respond to WOT pedal position, and if a ported throttle body helps with that then I'm all for it, any gains would be a bonus. It's either this or a $289.00 plus shipping purchase for a sprintbooster kit. Once tuning is available, throttle sensitivity should be able to be adjusted but until then us V6 owners are stuck like Chuck to bolt-ons. Also as for adding untuned air to the vehicle, the throttle bore stays identical to stock on the back where it mounts to the intake manifold unless you request and pay for manifold port matching. From the reading I've done, this Dan guy that does this has done his homework on this mod to keep it from making a CEL/MIL and actually offer a gain of some kind. That and he doesnt sell or offer a throttle body spacer, so automatically I dont smell snake oil.

Okay, got it and installed it along with the factory resonators to quiet my exhaust and delete the fart sound between shifts. After using it for a week and a half I can say that it almost completely removed my throttle lag, and made acceleration better, more responsive and touchy from a stop, I love it. Not only that but the company I ordered from, Fastman was exceptional. I think adding the factory resonators to my 2.5" dual exhaust with x-pipe also added some needed minimal backpressure and by doing so, I now enjoy my car more and the dead space before during and after shifts is gone.

Why do people keep saying that? Doesn't a CAI or high flow air filter do the same thing? So then, won't the ECM adjust fuel trim as well and make it moot? I mean, the better TB gets more air in, same as the CAI, so how come this comment is never used with a CAI, but is used with a ported TB?

The air is not metered at the intake, or the intake tube, or at the TB, it is metered AFTER the Throttle Body, so how can that statement not apply to a higher flow intake, but DOES with a ported throttle body, that essentially does the same thing?

PLEASE, elaborate...

I'm not an expert or anything but I think the combination of these mods exceed whatever parameters the computer could handle than with oem parts. This is why a tune where you can set exactly what has been done to the car will give optimum performance...

Can anyone chime in about the gains with a throttle body and a canned tune?
I'm sure there are some very small gains down low and up high from the larger bore, but mainly the gains are throttle response and acceleration overall. It now has that jumpy feeling from a dig. I ran a modified sentra Se-r SpecV (w/ 6speed manual) that has been gutted to weigh 2000lbs and I left him horribly from a dig, a 40 roll, and a 50 roll. He was as impressed as I was. I can say with my recent mods that my car is discernably faster than the last time I took it to the dyno.

I love seeing threads where im thinking about doing the same mod but have tons of questions about it. Then someone posts about it with a better price, done all the homework, and even had people here answer my questions in the post. Thanks buddy! Reps!
Couldn't have said it better. I was just looking at throttle bodies. All the OP had to do was let me know the lag was gone when you accelerate and it is worth it for me. Thanks OP! Reps!!

I got a wild hair last night and ported my upper intake manifold (removed all the casting imperfections). I'll be porting the lower manifold this weekend. So far it made a huge difference at the top end and after I polished where I sanded, it also helped the low end, now 1/4 throttle feels like 1/2 throttle and full throttle is more pronounced as if I increased my shift firmness. I really can't wait for a tuner. Next month I'm going back to the track... I pulled 14.8 @ 93 mph bone stock.

Still running great man, about to go ahead and port/polish the lower manifold and polish the upper manifold.

You sold me, now tb has to be my next mod!

Congratulations guys enjoy your mod. One thing to remember is that it will take less pedal for the same effect, don't do like I did and turn your traction control off when it's raining for the test drive.
