I have not seen this on hear and thought it would be useful.

From the service manual:

Enhanced Seatbelt Reminder Programming

The seatbelt indicator also includes a programmable enhanced seatbelt reminder or “beltminder” feature that is enabled when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. This beltminder feature provides extended and modified visual seatbelt indicator and audible chime warning responses to an unbuckled driver side front seat belt. The beltminder
feature may be disabled or enabled by the customer using the programming sequence that follows, or by the dealer using a diagnostic scan tool. The following sequence of events must occur within sixty (60) seconds of the ignition switch being placed in the On position in order for the programming to be completed successfully.

1. With the ignition switch in any position except On or Start, buckle the driver side front seat belt.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the On position and wait for the seatbelt indicator reminder function to conclude (about six seconds).

3. Unbuckle and buckle the driver side front seat belt three or more times, ending with the belt buckled.

4. Turn the ignition switch to any position except On or Start to toggle the beltminder feature from its current setting (from active to inactive, or from inactive to active). A single chime tone will provide an audible confirmation that the programming sequence has been successfully completed.

Being a Safety Officer I will also urge everyone to wear your seatbelt. I did this because if I am working on the car and i want the door open to hear my tunes, i dont want to hear the chiming.

I urge anyone reading this not to do it. Please wear your seat belt anytime you are in a vehicle. I lost a couple friends in a car accident a couple years ago that may have been prevented had they been wearing their seat belts.

I think i understand all the people wearing a seat belt, hell, it's probably the way to go (we could be here arguing about it being helpful or it actually causing more injuries esp. at certain speed) but considering i ride my 190 hp motorcycle 4-5 times a week, seat belt in the car is almost a joke.

BTW, i know A LOT of people that were in a high speed crash (horrible looking may i add) without wearing a seat belt and are still here. There is a lot of accidents were the driver is alive, because he does NOT wear a seat belt. A close friend of mine, classmate for 8 yrs was in an accident in Nissan Micra (small 2 door city car), the car was TOTALED, i used to have pics of it but i don't anymore, coz i thought what's the point, and well, the ONLY reason he's alive is the fact he was NOT wearing a seat belt. Upon the impact he got literally thrown out of the window and what a luck that was, the pictures show a MASSIVE branch from the tree came in through the windshield and penetrated the driver seat! NO WORD OF LIE! Very similar thing happened to my buddy's uncle, except there was no tree, there just wasn't a drivers side either. AT ALL. I'm absolutely 100% sure (and not just me, in both instances the cops and the medical stuff didn't want to believe the driver survived and said exactly what i'm saying) had those two been wearing a seat belt, they wouldn't be here now, both walked away with a concussion.

I really believe it's ALL about luck what happens to you when you have an accident. If the seat belt really needs to be mandatory, it should be for the passenger not the driver. I think a lot of serious internal organ injuries are caused by seat belts.

To be fair though, there was an accident in my home town when the seat belt would save a life, i just don't think there are any on the bus. A bus with young hockey players hit a car dead on, the coach who was sitting in the front row was thrown out of the bus window and got run over by another car.

I think it just proves my point. It's all about how lucky you are. I hope we all are very lucky.

Ah please dont do this mod folks. My brother just went down to NC last weekend for a cultural dance competition. He and the rest of his university team made it safe but one of the other universities head down there had an accident in the middle of the night thru VA. The only two people that werent wearing their seat belts were ejected thru the rear windshield when the van spun out. One young girl lost her life and the other one sustained major but not life threatening injuries. It breaks my heart to hear stories where just a simple thing like a seat belt would have saved this poor girls life.

Save your family the heartache and just wear it.

I do support the right of someone not to wear their seat-belt, but to claim seatbelts don't save lives goes against simple statistics: 17% of drivers don't wear seatbelts, yet account for 63-65% of driving fatalities... you're almost four times more likely to die from not wearing a seatbelt vs. wearing it. So anyone who thinks otherwise is speaking from emotion and not common-sense.

With that said, this is great info as that chime gets annoying when cleaning or working on my car.

Or you could do the smart thing and actually wear your seatbelt.

I have to because of my allergies. My face is very allergic to windshield glass. If it hits the windshield at a high rate of speed, it starts to bleed and bones break. This can be a deadly allergic reaction. lol

I am glad to see you post this up! :TU:

Something else to think about.....If you get in a bad crash, the medical bills will be very high. Your insurance company can recover all information stored in the air bag deployment module, or crash data recorder as it's commonly called. They may not pay based on the thinking that you contributed to your own injuries. Remember, anything stored in that module can be recovered at a later time. (Speed, Delta V, Engine Throttle Position, Seat Belt Status, Brake Circuit Status, etc) Some Police agencies are downloading the data as a matter of routine in serious crashes.

The keyless ignition has Off, Acc, and Run. Run is equivalent to the On position. Just don't put your foot on the brake when the button is in the Run position or it will start the engine. Once you deactivate the chime it remains deactivated until you reactivate it. Yes, you can still wear your seatbelt.
