RT or SRT?

Hey guys.

Some of you might have seen that I'll be tossing the SE out the door and buying a RT or SRT probably next year. But I don't know which I should get.

I'm torn since the SRT comes w/ the upgraded brakes, more horses to play with, and all the other extras, but you can find a lot better deal on the RT's and get the leather seats too (that's a must for me now lol).

So I thought I'd ask you RT guys if you are satisfied with your RT's? If not, what does the SRT have that you wish the RT had? Can you get close to the SRT's HP w/ extra mods? Basically I just want to know if spending an extra 5 grand+ is really worth it. Thanks!

Depends how far you want to take it. I love my RT but im selling it to buy an SRT8...to get the upgrades such as brakes suspension and everything else. Im satisfied with the power i got out of my RT and i didnt even have to many mods. It just depends how much power you want and how far you want to take it I guess.

I love my R/T. I have no real plans to get an SRT8. Don't get me wrong, the SRT8's are beautiful beasts. I wanted (really, needed) something that I could drive the kids around in and to my mind the SRT8's are more of a true performance sedan. If I couldn't get the R&T seats I probably would've gone with an SRT8.

I hear ya Nanook. I just really want more power and I used to have leather seats in my last vehicle so I miss them. So if I can get both out of a RT, I think I'd be happy. I just don't want to kick myself later for not forking up the extra money for a SRT.

The fact that I was about to buy heads, headers, a rear end...alot of parts and even with all that it would get me around low 12 in the quarter mile based on track times online. Then eventually i would have to upgrade brakes, suspension and all that to support it. Just didnt make sense to dump all that money into my RT when I can sell it...buy an SRT drop a cam and heads and run 11's all day long...as well as getting brembos the SRT8 seats, suspension, 20in wheels and so on. There are some awesome deals on SRT8s right now as well.

Dont get me wrong I love my RT and it is very fast but I would like to take it to another level.

If I could do it all over I'd go with an SRT8. Better brakes, better seats, bigger motor. If your upgrading heads and cam anyway why not do it on a 6.1 motor that can handle the power better. The motor is built better than our 5.7's. Stronger pistons, crank etc...

Yea, I'm not big in the race/timing scene, so I don't think a SRT would be the better choice. I just want something that can get me off the line faster and to merge onto interstate traffic in Dallas quicker.

I'd probably only add an intake and diablo and be done with performance parts. How good performance wise are the exhausts on RTs? Also, how do they sound? I might upgrade that too and be done. The rest would be interior/sound/light mods.

Well it sounds great if you change out your exhaust and turn MDS off with diablo. Stock it's pretty queit. I'm thinking of removing my reso's on my flowmaster catback just to make it growl a bit louder.

Well I own both a 08 Daytona R/T and a 08 SuperBee. I bought the Bee first. The Daytona is a Daily Driver. What it would cost to upgrade the R/T to SRT you should just get the SRT. I love my R/T and its an amazing car but the SRT is just an animal :TU: You go with heads, cam, cai and exhaust on an SRT and Holy S***. what a ride :D

I love my R/T! The extra fuel economy does help in the budget too. Sounds like you need an R/T or Daytona to get you what you need. Or, there's the R/T with R&T package. Good luck bro

If it was me when i got mine, i would have gotten the srt8. But since i drive my car more than anything i am glad i got the r/t. I guess it all depends on what u wont to weigh it on, moer gas or less usage, already fast but make it quickness,,,or its fast but make it faster..

That's the reason I traded in my R/T for my SRT! Best decision I made in a long time! :D

I bought my RT used for $16000. Drop another $4000 for a 440 stroker engine, and you have an easily 11 sec car for $20000.Throw another 5,000 for drivetrain parts and you have a 10 sec car for $25000 if you have the extra money. Thats what I would do if I had to restart all over. For $20000-25000 you have a car that will blow almost anything on the road! I wish i hadnt spent all my money on heads/cam and bolt ons, and just went with the stroker from the get go, would have saved me money and time.

Get an RT and drop a stroker in there!

I have over 7k in performance parts in my car.

I love my Daytona, but if I could have afforded the Detonater Yellow Bee when I bought my Daytona thats what I would have.. That being said, I would not part with my Daytona for an SRT8 but thats now... If you can swing it, get the SRT...

I always wanted a SRT but since I did a lot of driving I went with the RT. Now that my mileage went down I traded for a SRT. I love the decision I made.

I'm not sure that figure is entirly accurate. You still need heads, cam, and possible gears to get an 11 second Charger.

It would cost me about 4k on the SRT for a good set of heads, a cam, underdrive pulley, install, and tune to get to 11's. Heck, I don't even know if that would do it for sure. And, that doesn't include the CAI, ported TB, Diablo, hi-flo cats, and catback already on the car which cost over 2k.

FACT>
You can buy a 1-2yr old used R/T for 16-18k
-OR-
buy a 2-3yr old used SRT for 21-24k (I bought mine for 23k)

I have an R/T, and i love it, not planning to go horsepower crazy with it, maybe add a bit more as time passes, but for a daily driver its great. I have added a few mods to it and the zoomers exhaust sounds great on it. If you want a daily driver with oomph, get the R/T, if you want to haul azz at the track all day, go with the SRT, either way you can't go wrong
