SRT-8 Grille on a SE

Somebody backed into my 2008 SE Charger and it's in the shop right now and I was hoping to get the grille upgraded to the SRT-8 honeycomb insert style, so I gave the body shop (at a dodge dealership) the mopar part number for the insert. Apparently his part guy told him thatthe grilles for the SE come with the slat inserts attached, that the honeycomb inserts won't fit on the SE grille, and the SRT-8 grille won't fit on the SE at all.

Is any of this true? Anybody have any suggestions for me?

You could always get the stock grill and purchase the honeycomb separately. Why don't you check with our vendor MoparOnline and ask them. I swapped out my slats for the honeycomb a while back with no issues. The slats can be popped out.

Thanks for the responses guys. So the grille has to come with slats? I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy extra parts. If that's the case maybe I'll have him order the inserts and I'll just drop by and pop them in myself before he puts the grille on. He seems to think he would have to cut the slats out for some reason.

Yeah that's the one I meant, the R/T Daytona one. Unfortunately the guy at the dealership apparently couldn't figure out how to take the slats out... The car has been fixed, but he just handed me the honeycomb insert for me to handle myself. Seems a little ridiculous to me unless I'm missing something.

I just tried doing this myself. My car goes in the shop monday. You will have to pay the difference on what it would cost. I have an R/T Max w/ the ACC and need a whole new front bumper cover. I was told the SRT8 Bumber is $325 more than the R/T and then I would also need to buy the grille, fog lights, and fog light housings because they are different than the R/T's. Seeing that you have an SE you don't have any of these options so I think you would be looking at like $1000.00 out of pocket to do the swap.

EDIT: I am an idiot. You have an 08. Should be a little easier.

It sounds like the same problem applies though because they were adamant that I couldn't swap out the whole grille assembly.

But I still should be able to swap out the inserts from what everybody is telling me. At this point if the honeycomb insert doesn't fit I'm just going to trim it to make it fit and epoxy it if I have to, that sucker is going on.

i have the sxt and they are all the same.
take the grille out. by opening the hood and unscrewing the four screws( two in verticle crosshair, then two on each ends)
flip over so you are looking at the back. there should be black tabs that you have to push out, then the insert just falls out. you shouldnt have to cut anything. pretty easy mod.

good luck post up if u have any questions, ill try to find my pics i took if u need them
