Engine Off Timer sounds related to the factory remote start system
It's not even close to being that practical.
The PCM compares actual shutdown time to a calculated shutdown time.
The calculated shut down time is based on the amount of shutdown time necessary for the ECT (engine coolant temp) to drop a specific amount after a completely warmed up engine is shut down.
P2610 is logged if the difference between the actual shutdown time and the calculated shut down time is greater than a maximum value (I don't know the max value). The comparison is started once the difference between engine coolant temperature and ambient air temperature is greater than 50°F.
I have no idea what the purpose of this diagnostic is all about. The suggested fix is to check for excessive resistance in the PCM ground and power circuits. I would start by checking the condition of the PCM wiring harness/connectors and check that the PCM is securely fastened in the mounting bracket.
