Renting Cecil County Dragway for the day ~ Who's interested??

Spring is here and everybody's getting their cars ready for the show season as well as the racing season. I thought a great way to get some quality practice in at the drag strip is to get a group of folks together and rent the track for the day. Do you know how many runs you could get in with a group of 15 folks??? A LOT!!!

The cost for a group of 10-15 on a Friday from 10 - 4 w/out track prep is $2,000. Track prep adds another $900 (I assume both lanes). I've checked around at some other dragways and this is a very competitive rate. So basically, If we can get 15 folks, a day of racing would run just a little under $200 for the day. I don't think that's too bad when you consider the amount of runs you could get in.

So this is basically a feeler as to who might be interested. I will also bring it up at the Delaware Meet N' Greet. Personally I could get about 5 or so folks and that's not even putting the word out. But I would first open it up to my "Z" family.

I'm only looking for a "might" at this time. I understand schedule comes into play as it's only on Fridays. So let me know and hopefully we can have a "Z Race Day" in a month or so.

Way too expensive-for 25-35 bucks each- we could all meet on a street night and get quite a few runs in-some nights if its it slow- could be 10-12 runs-which is more than enough- if you really want to ...do they have street night there?? im not familiar with that track.. then we get to race a variety of cars...:)

Wow, thanks for the info. They do have track nights but a normal night only consists of a few runs due to the # of people.

I did just hear back from another track and I will post the email when I get home. Looks to be half the price.

I guess I'm lucky that the tracks near me aren't that busy, $50 on test and tune days and I can get as many runs as I want in. The cool down time between runs is the only thing that limits how many times.

Perhaps try it once by yourself on a test and tune day and if it goes well arange a group day to swarm the track!

Yes, I guess we could always do that as well. However my main reason behind the whole idea was for everybody to get a lot of runs in (practice) and also to get together and take over the track with no distractions, no problems, etc. Just "Z" members and families. Would be a great time. Yes, maybe a little more expensive, but in the end (I think) worth it to maybe a few folks.

So here's the email I received back from another dragway. Looks like the price is nearly 1/2 quoted me from Cecil County so I think we could still get 15 or so folks for most of the day and pay $100 or less. I don't know much, but I know I've spent (blown) $100 in less than 6 hours and for something far less fun. Anyway, here's the email/info:

Depending on what you are looking for we do have track rentals. Track rentals are $750 for 4hrs. for 1 to 6 cars. Each addition car up to 10 car max are $50 each. There is no side by side racing during a rental only single runs. All cars must pass NHRA inspection, and rules. We also have a 6hr rental for $900 and a 8hr rental for $1200, these are for 1 to 8 cars and any additional up to 12 are $50 each. We require a $250 deposit. If you get a definite car count we can usually get approval for 4 or 5 additional cars from the insurance company. This may require an additional insurance fee. Track availability is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am until 6pm. Please let me know well in advance the date you may be considering. You may call the office for more info. 302-875-1911 Mon. - Fri. 9am - 4pm
Thank You!

If I don't get the interest I expected I will probably just go ahead and rent it myself and invite some local friends to join me; of course that will include local "Z" members!!

Please let me know. I am game for Cecil. I can get 3-4 people to commit.

Only thing is Cecil needs to make sure the track is on kill for that kinda money.

Mike I"m sure Chris Brian and Bert would want in on this. I'm very much out of the loop with everything till may so I haven't been around very much at all. Extremely busy.

I'm curious as to why only limit it to 10-15 even with 20-30. the cost is way less and still everyone should be able to get plenty of runs in to be happy. Especially if the track guys are doing their job efficiently.

I only went with 10-15 because I didn't know what kind of response I was going to get. That was really the minimum I figured I would need to make it economically do-able. But now after doing more research we would be better off going to US 13 Drag way rather than Cecil. It's about half the price and they offer a variety of packages on multiple nights. So if I can get some folks to commit I don't mind putting down the deposit and making all the arrangements. If I get some response I will pick some dates, gain a consensus and then go from there.

Who's in?

Here's a link to their website.

I Live 2 miles from cecil and friday nights are usually busy but you can still get a good 4+ runs in and its only 15$ to run all night. There also open on wednesday nights which is when i like to go its still $15 but theres hardly anyone there so its like you make a pass down the track and by the time you get back to the pits your ready to run again.

Wow, sounds like Wednesday's the day to go. However, I would still like to get a group of "Z" members together and have the track all to ourselves. If we do US13 Drag Way we (15 people) could have the track for 6-hours for $1300. That is less than $100 a person and we own the track. Might be really great for first-time folks...give them an opportunity to learn amongst friends, gain tips, and not be rushed. They rent the track every Tuesday and Thursday. Yeah, it's certainly more than $15 but I think there are a lot of advantages too. I would certainly be up to it. And another thing, we don't have to get 15 people. If we could at least get 8 the price is just $112. How amazing would that be to have such a small group basically own the track. Heck, I spent more than $100 taking the wife and 3 kids to Toy Story 3 (3D) after paying for the tickets, popcorn, mike & ike's and drinks.

Anyway, that's what I would like to do. If anybody else is interested I will start making the list. Remember though, it's on Tuesday's and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., so many of us would have to take off of work. But I'm still game. So let me know and once we reach at least 8 and can confirm a date we will go ahead with the plans.
