I was walking thru the store the other day going by the magazines, I normally ignore them since they have nothing to do with our rides. Well low and behold on the cover. 720HP 5.7L Hemi!!! Engine masters is what it was called. They tested a crate 5.7 based off our LX platform. The only thing that was different was the intake (not CAI). I though we didn't have them available aftermarket and I guess we do. only problem was it has a trottle body on top. I dont know why since it has fuel rails the same as ours do. Other than that it is the same engine. They tested it 3 different way, one just a cam upgrade then, with heads, and finally with a supercharger from G&S. with just a cam iw was showing 481 HP at 6600 rmp, with heads 508 @ 6600 RPM and with the supercharger it was 712 @ 7000. I know we dont run our cars that high but it there is alot of potential. the article said they didn't even push the engine really hard yet either. They did state without beffing up the bottom end the engine would not last to long but with a beefed up bottom it could handle it quite well. The article listed all the torque and HP ratings from 3000 - 7000 rpm's if anyone is interested in how much at what rpms it will take. They made several comments on how well the stock heads on these vehicles are, that they can be upgraded but not much work would need to go into them. they used some part from a company called FAST? looks like a really geeked out tuner.

I would rewrite with whole aricle for you guys but that would take quit a bit of time. I dont know if they have a website where you could read it or not. Maybe i'll get bored and write it up for you guys who knows.

Anyone out there with more engine knowlege have any additional input or questions about the article let me know. It may be a bit before I get back to you though.

Look out SRT's :box2:well for a little while.:D I'm sure as I write this up in a day or two there will be a 6.1 that breaks 800HP.

Are you sure it wasn't a motor designed for use in earlier cars? These third generation hemis have become very popular in the after market for guys rebuilding old Mopars but wanting new technology under the hood, that may be the reason for the different intake and throttle body.

Those numbers aren't that impressive as they are most likely Crank HP numbers. Which is just what people are running now. With the description you gave those engine configurations are for the older hemi engine replacements where you don't have HAL to work with.

But people with 5.7L's running 400hp to the rear wheels + drivetrain loss = about 480 crank HP

It is the LX 5.7. Same heads that is on ours, coil packs etc.... That is why I was wondering about the intake, why would they need a throttle body, when it had the fuel rails on it. In the article they even went with larger injectors on the fuel rails. The only thing different on that motor was the intake W/ throttle body on it.
I have seen in another article somewhere where they used a whole new intake system also. I am just as curious as you are.
They could have put alot more into the motor but as they stated they would need to build up the bottom end, otherwise catastrphic failure would have occured.

It was covered here before, the 5.7 hemi's have available an aftermarket manifold that uses either a carburetor or a throttle body.
In what you describe, it was using an XV Motorsports 5.7 Hemi Intake manifold with a throttle body. The throttle body only regulates the air, the fuel is still delivered the same way ours does, by the fuel injectors. It was more than likely running an aftermarket EFI software system like one from F.A.S.T. or any other vendor.

42 lb. hr injector They also have a 60 lb hr injector.

When I do my conversion in the Challenger, I'll probably use XV Motorsports. I wen to their open house last year and it is a top notch cutting edge company. Very $$$ though.

Yep what you just said, they ran the FAST EFI software on it. The intake may have been from mopar performance though. it said hemi on it and had the "M" looks like it though.
Would it do anything for us to add it to ours? Don't really see why it would when we could just get new injectors. But hey i'm willing to learn all i can

Bullish and anyone else wondering, there is no point in switching manifolds for our cars. 2 reasons:
1 - The 5.7 manifold works wonderfully, it is designed to carry only the air and it does a great job at that. The only reason to step up to a 6.1 manifold on a 5.7 is if you went forced inductions, radical cam w/radical heads.

2 - The aftermarket manifolds mount the throttle body on top and because of this it would not leave enough room to close the hood.

Back in the day when manifolds delivered air and fuel together changing to a different style, single plane, dual plane, high rise and so on it woul dmake a difference. Now our manifolds only deliver air so there really won't be much in performance gains.

Frank Racing Inc is a distributor of XV products and is building such an animal as we speak for the HEMI GREMI race car............

Sean Hyland is the motor-guru over there and is best known for his work with DOHC Fords...................

We carry those intakes, the sprak computer and a couple of other parts.....................we just haven't had the time to dive in head first.

Sean and FRI colaberated on some info and shared ideas, numbers, and tests and XV is pushing forward to make this motor a main-stay in the older Mopars............

THIS IS THE TIME TO PURCHASE AN OLDER MOPAR!

The prices are stupid now ALREADY and the prices are getting worse (from a buyers perspective)

I am an A-Body fan (Dart, Duster, Valiant, Barracuda, Demon, etc) fan while Steve and many of our friends are B-Body fans (Charger, Road RUnner, GTX, Polera, Belvadere, Fury, etc)

Its already proven that the LA motor (318, 340, and 360) are no match for the mighty HEMI small block

My dream is to purchase a 69 black Charger. Not necessarily because of any movie, just think its a wickedly designed, beautiful car, and love the split grill from that year. Wonder what you guys at FRI can do to make a 69 Charger go fast:D
