I was walking thru the store the other day going by the magazines, I normally ignore them since they have nothing to do with our rides. Well low and behold on the cover. 720HP 5.7L Hemi!!! Engine masters is what it was called. They tested a crate 5.7 based off our LX platform. The only thing that was different was the intake (not CAI). I though we didn't have them available aftermarket and I guess we do. only problem was it has a trottle body on top. I dont know why since it has fuel rails the same as ours do. Other than that it is the same engine. They tested it 3 different way, one just a cam upgrade then, with heads, and finally with a supercharger from G&S. with just a cam iw was showing 481 HP at 6600 rmp, with heads 508 @ 6600 RPM and with the supercharger it was 712 @ 7000. I know we dont run our cars that high but it there is alot of potential. the article said they didn't even push the engine really hard yet either. They did state without beffing up the bottom end the engine would not last to long but with a beefed up bottom it could handle it quite well. The article listed all the torque and HP ratings from 3000 - 7000 rpm's if anyone is interested in how much at what rpms it will take. They made several comments on how well the stock heads on these vehicles are, that they can be upgraded but not much work would need to go into them. they used some part from a company called FAST? looks like a really geeked out tuner.
I would rewrite with whole aricle for you guys but that would take quit a bit of time. I dont know if they have a website where you could read it or not. Maybe i'll get bored and write it up for you guys who knows.
Anyone out there with more engine knowlege have any additional input or questions about the article let me know. It may be a bit before I get back to you though.
Look out SRT's :box2:well for a little while.
I'm sure as I write this up in a day or two there will be a 6.1 that breaks 800HP.
