Hi Guys, Nice site! Tons of info.

Unfortunately I am here because of taking my wife's near perfect 2010 Charger R/T to the dealer for a front end noise at low speeds during backing (and while it's here, please rotate the tires). When I picked it up all 4 chrome clad wheels were cracked by the lug nuts. Some so severe that the cracks are running down the center of the flat portion of the rim cover. When I saw it the next day I flipped! Not one rim-all 4!

Not only that but they made the noise in the front end worse by tightening the front struts. Now the car steers hard and has a worse noise than ever.

Today I towed it back on my own trailer just because I didn't want to drive it like this and showed them the rim damage.

Their response is to call Chrysler and see if they will cover under warranty.

Car has 15K miles on it and has only had one winter tire swap. Wheels are washed weekly so I know they were not like this before I brought it there but now it must be a warranty issue ?????? Not happy.

I see from the posts that the front end noise is most likely a tie rod but can anyone shed any light on the chrome clad rim cracking issue?

It looks like it is pretty common but not sure if they will cover this through Chrysler. The dealership has plain outright told me that they will not be buying me a thousand dollars in new rims because they do not come separate. :shakehead:

Any feedback to my email or this thread would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Sorry you had this experience. I'd go back and raise hell until they agreed to fix the damage they caused. If they won't fix it, get in touch with Chrysler Corporate offices, they have been known to do the right thing from time to time. Also, make sure you leave a review with Dodge about your recent service experience, I bet you will get a phone call within a few days from someone trying to kiss your ass. Bad service reviews really hurt the dealerships.

I give my cars a good look and check out the work they performed before I leave in the rare event one of my cars are ever serviced by someone other than me. With any luck, you will end up with top shelf treatment like I get at the Suzuki dealership where we have my wife's car serviced. Sometimes being labeled as a "difficult customer" has it's advantages.

Good luck, hope someone makes it right for you.

I agree. I've had no issues with my chrome clads, but then again I've done all the maintenance on my ride and my wheels have only been touched by one tire shop (during an alignment) since I've owned my car; never been back to the dealer. I hope Chrysler does the right thing and replaces them for you. Good luck.:TU:

I have one Clad wheel cracked just as you described. I've seen more of this on the Challenger site. From what I remember some people had luck getting the wheels replaced under warranty.

I'm not sure anyone has come to a conclusion as to why these cracks happens.

When you take the car back, skip the service writer and go for the general manager of the dealer. Let him/her know this isn't going to easy for them to push off on Chrysler. It's THEIR fault.

Whether the wheels are covered or not is really not even relavent. Fact of the matter is they did some work on your car which involved removing the wheels and when you got the car back they were damaged.

My sentiments exactly, warrantied or not is between them and Chrysler, the damage happened while under the dealer's care and it's up to them to try and get reimbursed.
